Whitney Houston

Whitney Elizabeth Houston was born in Newark on August 9, 1963, and in 2008 the Guinness Book of Records declared Whitney the world’s most award-winning and popular artist. He dominated the singing scene from 1980 to 1990 selling about 55 million records. Oprah Winfrey nicknamed her “The Voice” – which was in Frank Sinatra’s men’s camp – for the power of her voice. Her total sales of albums, singles and videos are over 170 million copies, and it’s easy to see how the depression that hit her in the following years and the fall into the tunnel of drug addiction can also have to do with managing such a huge worldwide success. Added to this were the family problems, which lasted a long time and led to her divorce in 2006 from her singing husband Bobby Brown (married in 1992), who was accused of ill-treatment as early as 1993. In the same year, and after a miscarriage, in 1993 she gave birth to her daughter, Bobbi Kristina Houston Brown. In the film industry Whitney Houston is famous for her participation alongside Kevin Costner in the film “Bodyguard” in 1992 that definitively consecrates her. Her greatest hits include “I wanna dance with somebody”, “I will always love you”, “How will I know” and “Saving all my love for you”. Whitney Houston died at the age of 48, on February 11, 2012: his body was found lifeless at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, Los Angeles, where he was attending the Grammy Awards party. She had only converted to Islam a few days earlier.
