Shawn Mendes was born on August 8, 1998, in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, the son of Karen, a real estate agent, and Manuel Mendes, a businessman dedicated to the sale of supplies for bars and restaurants in Toronto. His father is of Portuguese descent, while his mother is of English origin. He was raised in Pickering, a suburb of Toronto, and attended Pine Ridge School. He became known in mid-2013 when he began uploading versions of other songs to Vine, which received millions of hits thanks to the six-second feature with excerpts from performances of many popular songs. In September of the same year, Shawn began a tour with other Vine users called the MAGCON Tour, which was discovered by Andrew Gertler and signed to the Island Records label, with which he released his first single, Life Of The Party, in June 2014. He toured Canada as the opening act for his compatriot Austin Mahone and won the Teen Choice Award in 2014 for Best Music Star on the Web. His first studio album, Handwritten, debuted at number one in Canada and the United States, as well as entering the top twenty in Australia, Ireland, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.He became the youngest artist to debut in the top 25 with a debut song on the Billboard Hot 100, with number 24 in the week ending July 12, 2014; he was 15 years, 11 months and 4 days old. He recorded a song called Believe for the Disney Channel movie Descendants. He was also chosen to open for Taylor Swift on her 1989 World Tour in North America, was nominated for Best Male Artist, and his single, Stitches, was named Best Song by a Male Artist, and was included by Time Magazine in their list of the 25 Most Influential Teens of 2014 and the 30 Most Influential Teens of 2015.In June 2016, he released Treat You Better as a single off his second album, Illuminate (September 23, 2016), and introduced In My Blood on March 22, 2018 as the first single off his third studio album, the second single Lost in Japan, which was released the following day. He debuted at number one on the US Billboard 200, making him the third youngest singer with three number one albums.he released a three-track remix EP on December 21, 2018 entitled The Album (Remixes) with tracks from his eponymous album, such as Where Were You in the Morning?, Why and Youth.in 2019, he released the single If I Can’t Have You, along with the video, entering at number 2 on the US Billboard Hot 100.
