This is Biography Skin, the leading English singer of Skunk Anansie, whose real name is Deborah Anne Dyer, was born on August 3, 1967 in Brixton, Great Britain, after studying interior design in Middlesbrough at Teesside University, she occasionally worked as a model and singer.
She began her musical career in the band Skunk Anansie, together with Richard Lewis on bass, Martin Kent on guitar and Mark Richardson on drums.
The band releases three albums – “Paranoid &Sunburnt”, “Stoosh” and “Post Orgasmic Chill”, with millions of copies sold worldwide, making Deborah known in Europe and beyond. In the meantime, Skin is also appreciated beyond Skunk Anansie, for example by appearing in 1995 in “Strange Days”, a cyberpunk science fiction film in which she performs the song “Selling Jesus”.
At the beginning of 2000, instead, he duets with Cristiano Godano, singer of Marlene Kuntz, in the song “La canzone che scrivo per te”, which is part of the album “Che cosa vedi” by the Cuneo band; in the same period he also collaborates with Maxim Reality of Prodigy for the hit “Carmen Queasy, in 2001 the band Skunk Anansie broke up, with Kent releasing a record called “Still Hungry”, Richardson becoming a turntable for Feeder and Skin embarking on a solo career.
After changing her look (going from a classic bald head to a male short cut), the Brixton singer takes part as an actress in “Hideous Man”, a dramatic short film written and directed by John Malkovich, which also features Emilia Fox, Gary Sinise, Anita Pallenberg, Shaznay Lewis, Saffron Burrows and Arielle Dombasle.
His first album, titled “Fleshwounds”, doesn’t get – instead – the success he hoped for: in Italy he doesn’t go beyond the sixth place, while in Germany he hardly reaches the top 20
of the best-selling albums. Called to open the concerts of Placebo and Robbie Williams, Skin non demorde, and in 2006, back to her Skunk Anansie (hair completely shaved to zero) look, she releases “Fake Chemical State”, her second album, anticipated by the single “Alone in My Room”, and which also contains the singles “Just Let the Sun”, “Nothing But” and “Purple”.
In the same year he takes part in the Concertone of May 1st in Rome, while in 2008 he returns to tie his professional career to Italy interpreting the song “Tear Down These Houses”, whose music was composed by Andrea Guerra, which is part of the soundtrack of “Parlami d’amore”, Silvio Muccino’s film: the piece, for which a video clip directed by Marco Salom is made, is also nominated as best original song at the David di Donatello Award.
While launching a project called Format 3 together with Martin Buttrich and Timo Maas, in 2008 Skin returns to Italy for a Beatles tribute concert in Sorrento on the occasion of the Caruso Award, for which he performs alongside Sinéad o’ Connor and Marlene Kuntz.
