Adele

Adele Laurie Blue Adkins was born on May 5, 1988 in London, in the northern district of Tottenham, to a young mother (her father is a young runaway with alcohol problems, who abandons the “family” shortly after the birth of the child). Interested since she was a child in soul music, she listens early to artists such as Etta James and Ella Fitzgerald; she enrolls, at the age of fourteen, at the Brit School in Croydon, a music institute that in the same years is attended by Jessie J. After graduating in 2006, Adele recorded a few songs, which she uploaded to her profile in Myspace: the songs were immediately a huge success with the public, which led her to be invited to numerous British television shows.Having gained fame, he signs a contract with the record company XL Recordings, with which he publishes, in January 2008, “Chasing pavements”, his first single. The song earned a fair amount of success both in Europe (where it reached the second place in the United Kingdom and the first place in Norway) and in the United States.

Shortly after, Adele debuted with a full album, “19”, like her years: the album, recorded with Mark Ronson (the producer of Amy Winehouse for the album “Back to black”), represents a perfect mix of soul and pop songs that speak of friendship and love. The market response is exceptional, with more than six and a half million copies sold and the top selling album ranking obtained in the Netherlands and the United Kingdom. Winner of the Critics’ Award at the Brit Awards in 2008, the young London artist won the Grammy Award for the best debut artist the following year, and was also known for her singles “Cold shoulder” and “Make you feel my love”.

The next album comes in 2011, and is called “21” (resuming, once again, the age of the singer): the first single is “Rolling in the deep”, and gets an important success throughout the continent. Adele also managed to make a significant impact on the US Billboard Hot 100, where she remained first for almost two months. The girl’s second album, in short, was an extraordinary success, confirmed by the four million copies sold in the United Kingdom alone. Critics and the public are in agreement in appreciating Adele’s talents, demonstrated by the single “Someone like you”, which alone sells over 600,000 copies (winning the Platinum Disk), and automatically becomes the first single of the decade to sell more than a million copies. In the United States, Adele won nine Platinum records, while at the end of 2011 “21” (from which a total of five singles were extracted: in addition to the already mentioned “Rolling in the deep” and “Someone like you”, also “Set fire to the rain”, “Turning tables” and “Rumour has it”) broke through the threshold of fifteen million copies. In the same year, the singer received six nominations for the Mtv Video Music Awards, winning the categories Best Cinematography, Best Editing and Best Art Direction, assigned to “Rolling in the deep”. In November, however, she was forced to cancel the dates of her tour of the American continent because of a hemorrhage to her vocal cords that required surgery. And so, while “21” becomes the fifth best-selling album in the musical history of the United Kingdom, its interpreter is forced to stop for health reasons. This does not prevent her, the following year, from winning six Grammy Wards, for the categories Song of the year, Record of the year, Best short form music video, Pop solo performance, Album of the year and Pop vocal album, and two Brit Awards, for the best British album of the year and as a British female singer. In the summer, “Adele: The biography”, a biography of the singer written by the writer Marc Shapiro, is published, describing Adele as an assiduous tobacconist (for this very reason tonsil surgery was necessary) and even as an alcoholic. On June 29, 2012, regardless of the rumors that concern her, Adele makes it known that she is pregnant; she and her partner Simon Konecki become parents of Angelo James on October 18 of that year, just as her voice is depopulated in cinemas around the world: Adele, in fact, is the interpreter of the soundtrack of “Skyfall”, title track of the film of the same name, the twenty-third of the saga of 007. In December, he published “Live at the Royal Albert Hall”, an audio and video report of the concert held in the famous London arena a year earlier. After a four-year break, on October 23, 2015 Adele released the single “Hello”, which anticipates her third album of unreleased songs, entitled “25”, released in November. “Hello” was the first song to exceed the threshold of a million downloads in a single week in the U.S..Adele marries her partner in 2017, but the marriage lasts very little: in the spring of 2019 the couple makes the separation known.
