Destiny’s Child

Destiny’s Child was formed in Houston as a women’s R&B group. In the beginning, Destiny’s Child played in their hometown venues and opened for some groups.

In 1997 Columbia offered them the possibility of recording their first album. That same year they recorded their first song, “killing time”, which was included in the soundtrack of the movie “Men in black”, interpreted by Will Smith.

In 1998 Destiny’s Child released their first album, called as themselves, “Destiny’s Child”. Their first single, “No, no, no” was an immediate success, reaching number 3 on the American charts, selling more than a million copies. At that time the group was composed of Beyoncé Knowles, Kelly Rowland (Beyonce’s cousin), LaTavia Roberson and LeToya Luckett.

Destiny’s Child’s next work would appear in 1999, with the title “The Writing’s on the Wall”, getting the first place in the R&B lists with the theme “Bills, Bills, Bills”, repeating the success with “Say My Name”. In 2002, LaTavia Roberson and LeToya Luckett abruptly left the group due to serious differences with the rest of their classmates.

In addition, they disagreed with the way their artistic director, Matthew Knowles (father and Beyoncé) managed the group. Both sued Matthew and his classmates. To cover the two casualties produced in Destiny’s Child, Farrah Franklin, 18, and Michelle Williams, 19, were chosen to appear for the first time in the video “Say My Name.

Five months later, Farrah also decides to leave the group, forming a trio. Destiny’s Child’s first work as a trio was the main theme of the film “Charlie’s Angels”, “Independent Woman”, with which they achieve great success, reaching the top of the charts.

In 2001 Destiny’s Child released a new album, entitled “Survivor”, going straight to number one. Despite this, they barely managed to sell half as many copies as the previous album. At the end of the same year, Destiny’s Child released a Christmas album.

In addition, the group’s three speakers announce that they will release solo albums in parallel to their work with Destiny’s.In 2002 they released a remzaclas album titled “This is the remix”. That year, Beyoncé appears in the third part of the film Austin Powers, as well as performing the soundtrack.

Shortly after, Beyoncé releases her first solo album, “Dangerously in love”, being the most successful far from Destiny’s Child.
